The CFR recently received a referral, on a Friday, from a community partner who was looking to assist a 19-year-old mother who found herself “couch surfing” with her two-year old child. Our Case Manager immediately jumped into action, making contact with the young woman and gathering some basic information. After ensuring she had adequate shelter for the weekend, she was scheduled to come in for an appointment the following Monday. By Tuesday she and her child were in an apartment, enrolled in CFR’s short-term housing program.

The person who made the referral sent us this note:

“I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for reaching out on behalf of my young mom who was couch surfing. I cannot tell you how truly appreciative I am of you, all that you are and all that you do. You may consider what you did to be all in a day’s work and may not realize the full impact of your actions. For people like her, knowing that there are people who care and are genuinely vested in helping, means everything. It enables you to keep trying and not give up. I know, because I was her. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”

Sometimes “all in a day’s work” makes a world of difference to those seeking services. Hope can be found even in the worst situations, light even in the darkest of times. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to serve those in our community who find themselves needing a little hope. CFR aims to be the go-to solution in prioritizing and addressing the needs of our communities most vulnerable – children facing homelessness.
