Brenda and her husband James lived a financially stable life with their 9 kids until her husband’s construction job took him from full-time to part-time due to the pandemic. With Brenda being a stay-at-home mother with no extra income, this change impacted the family tremendously. The family of 11 started experiencing hardships because of James’ reduced hours and became months behind on rent.

One day the family heard how the Center for Family Resources was helping with rental assistance through the Cobb County ERA (Emergency Rental Assistance) program. Brenda was hesitant to ask for help because she had a lot of pride and she felt bad that her family was in the situation that they were in, but she knew that she couldn’t allow her family to become homeless. She quickly reached out to the organization in hopes of getting their rent paid so that they wouldn’t be evicted from their apartment.

The CFR was able to assist Brenda and her family by paying 5-months of missed rent payments. Her family is forever grateful to the CFR for their assistance during a very difficult time. Now, Brenda’s husband is back to full-time, and the family is doing great. The family’s case manager said, “Brenda is a woman of courage and strength. I’m happy she made the decision to reach out to us for help.”

The Cobb County ERA (Emergency Rental Assistance) program was made available through the U.S. Treasury Department. CFR was granted funds by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners to provide rental assistance for Cobb residents impacted by COVID-19.
