The Center for Family Resources would like to welcome Mr. Darion Dunn, P.E. as the CFR’s 2020 board chair.
Mr. Dunn is a civil engineer with a vast background in real estate. He is the co-founder and managing partner of Atlantica Properties, a real estate investment and property management firm with a mission to “empower individuals by establishing thriving, holistic communities.”
Mr. Dunn began his career as a real estate investor in 1998 while earning a B.S. in Civil
Engineering and a Certificate in Economics at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He acquired
and rehabilitated single‐family homes, utilizing his engineering and financial background to
establish a system of effective construction management and cost controls. Upon graduating
college, Mr. Dunn continued as an active real estate investor and ultimately founded Atlantica
Properties in 2010, expanding his portfolio to include multifamily properties. Through this expansion into multifamily properties, Atlantica continues to implement a proven management system that enhances the value of underperforming assets.
In the corporate world, Mr. Dunn worked for five years as a Project Manager for Harrington, George & Dunn, P.C., a civil engineering firm founded by his father. In 2005, Mr. Dunn accepted a position as Lead Program Manager for Croy Engineering, where he was responsible for managing transportation, infrastructure, and capital improvement projects that had a total budget of over $250 million. Mr. Dunn also has served as the Director of Capital Improvements and Planning for the Buckhead Community Improvement District, managing projects for one of the most dynamic regions in the southeastern United States. Mr. Dunn has worked hard to establish Atlantica Properties as a role model for workforce housing acquisition and property management. He is also very active in the Atlanta community and sits on the boards of Chattahoochee Technical College Foundation, the Center for Family Resources, Open Doors and Star-C. Mr. Dunn’s experience as a real estate investor, Professional Engineer and community leader gives him a unique perspective as the principal of Atlantica Properties. He strongly believes that everyone profits when communities adopt a thoughtful, inclusive approach to real estate development.
As a Cobb County resident and 2020 board chair, Mr. Dunn has had direct experience with the CFR’s work and efforts to empower families in Cobb County. As board chair, he is focused on initiatives that will support the CFR’s community position as a recognized thought leader surrounding affordable housing issues impacting Cobb County residents.
During a recent meeting, Mr. Dunn highlighted the fact that due to the lack of affordable housing, Cobb County residents at the moderate to median income levels are now being impacted. In order to find solutions, Mr. Dunn supports a vision of “going higher to dig deeper.” An ultimate outcome could be for the CFR to be viewed as the convenor of community stakeholders that help advance meaningful conversations that will positively impact affordable housing for Cobb County families.
Mr. Dunn looks forward to working with the CFR 2020 board of directors and CEO, Melanie Kagan, as they continue to position the organization for long-term self-sufficiency, sustainability and successful outcomes.
We are very thankful to Mr. Dunn’s leadership and look forward to all that 2020 brings.
