For the past 15 years, The Center for Family Resources has partnered with the West Side Carrier Annex Post Office in support of “Stamp Out Hunger”, the largest one-day food drive in the nation, according to the United States Postal Service.
Following the slogan, “Fill a Bag. Help Feed Families”, community members came together and donated an incredible amount of non-perishable food items to then be sorted out by volunteers.
On Saturday, May 11, 18 volunteers from TruTech and True Glory Hair helped to unload, sort, and re-load much needed food items. The following Monday, May 13, 9 volunteers from InfoMart and UPS helped unload 289 bins, weigh each bin, and then organize them for dating and sorting.
Collectively, between community donations and pick-ups by letter carriers, volunteers unloaded, sorted, and re-loaded 8,797 pounds of food. The generous food donations will help to support the Center for Family Resources’ on-site food pantry and feed families in need.
