Jeri Barr honored by Cobb Executive Women with the 2011 Glass Ceiling Award

Marietta, Ga. (May 2, 2011) — On Monday, May 2, Jeri Barr, CEO of The Center for Family Resources, was honored by Cobb Executive Women with the 2011 Glass Ceiling Award for her service and career-long dedication to helping women achieve their highest potential.
Under Barr’s leadership as CEO, CFR has grown from a small financial assistance agency to a multi-function human service organization, serving the needs of the whole family in order to help them attain self-sufficiency. By creating a series of professional development programs that are specifically designed to prepare women to secure opportunities in the workforce, Barr has helped thousands of women find a better future for both themselves and their families. Barr’s outstanding leadership has helped many women break through the glass ceiling.
“Jeri truly believes in helping people help themselves and she constantly gives her best to those in our community who need it the most,” said Sam Olens, Attorney General of Georgia. “Every day Jeri helps people break through the glass ceiling and recognize their true potential.”
Barr joins a notable list of past recipients that includes Sam Olens, Attorney General, Bonnie Cole of United Way of Metro Atlanta, Fred Bentley, Jr. or Bentley, Bentley and Bentley, Joe Daniell of United Community Bank, Dr. Lisa Rossbacher of Southern Polytechnic University, Dr. Harlon Crimm of Chattahoochee Technical College, Brent Brown of Chesley Brown International and Ron Francis of Charter Bank, among others.

Formed in 1984 by Kennesaw State University President Betty Siegel, Cobb Executive Women (CEW) is dedicated to the promotion and encouragement of women in executive leadership. Membership is open to female members of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce who are executives in the following categories: business owners, professional occupations, executive management and elected or appointed officials. This is the 21st year that Cobb Executive Women has presented the Glass Ceiling Award. The award may go to a man or woman who has made a significant difference in the promotion and support of women in the workplace. Recipients are known for their dedication to helping women “break through the glass ceiling.”
Since 1960, CFR has helped tens of thousands of low-income families with employment, education, and housing services; leadership development programs; mentoring opportunities; and temporary financial and food assistance. Guided by organizational values of Family, Integrity, Results, Service and Teamwork, the staff at CFR is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by helping families acquire the resources they need to become independent and self-sufficient.
